Laura and Graham were an absolute dream to teach! From the moment I walked in to their home, I knew that I was going to love them...and I did!
Here is Laura's story in her own words...enjoy!
I had chosen to try Hypnobirthing after 2 upsetting births where I had every drug possible, both in theatre; I was never the first person to hold my baby and I had never been able to breastfeed.
Ashley came into our lives and put those worries to one side which I didn't think was possible.
The breathing she teaches is invaluable through labour and the relaxations allow you to focus on getting to that final goal, through the practice we did most nights we were confident with the scripts and knew exactly what worked for us.
She was also able to answer all my pregnancy and labour questions and make me think about what I really wanted to happen and how I could get it.
This made me feel so empowered and in control of my labour, something I had never experienced.
Hypnobirthing is a wonderful technique that gives you ways of coping, and something for you and your partner to do in labour that can completely change how your labour can go.
On Sunday night Graham and I went to bed but I just couldn't sleep.
By 5 am i knew that I was in labour but it was the very early stages so I wandered the house practicing my breathing.
By 10 am the surges had disappeared so I went for a nap.
At 3pm I woke with strong surges so I went downstairs and spent the afternoon with my family playing in the snow (it was the first day of snow this year so snowmen were a necessity.)
All the time I was using the breathing to get through the increasing surges.
I got in a bath at 6.30 and did some relaxation techniques with Graham. These were so good that my surges almost disappeared (or so i thought). I got out of the bath at 8.15 thinking I needed the toilet.
I walked to our bedroom and dropped to my knees and knew I had never had this feeling before (always been at the hospital by 3cm) and it was intense...... I wanted to push.... badly.
Graham phoned for an ambulance and used the dial down technique to try to help me refocus.
I arrived at the hospital at 8.35 and climbed onto the bed hoping to be told I was about 8-9cm and to prepare.
Instead I was told that they could see the head and to relax.
Two surges later my beautiful Henry was born and put straight on my chest.
There he stayed for the next 2 hours where for the first time I found out the sex first, I allowed the cord to stop pulsating and I delivered the placenta without the injection.
12 weeks in I am also still breastfeeding after using the breathing techniques to get past the difficult stages, i'm also working with an incredibly relaxed baby!
This was the most wonderful birth I could have ever dreamt of and I never thought I
could have anything like it.
Thanks to Hypnobirthing, Ashley's mountain of knowledge and her belief in me it was perfect and I will never forget it. Thank You.
